Little did Andalusia resident Hugh Gannon know that when he wrote to me about the 500th "Monday Night Football" game last week, he was contacting one of his former interns.

I worked for the WCAU sports department in 1986. When I told Gannon that I was a former intern, he didn't remember me, until I reminded him how he liked to order double-pepperoni pizzas and rattled off the sports staff at the time which included Al Meltzer, Joe Pellegrino and producer Jeff Asch, now at KYW-AM.

Gannon, 66, who said he is the only person to do play-by-play for the Phillies, Flyers, Sixers and Eagles, is now a recruiter for a headhunting firm in Huntingdon Valley.

Many remember Gannon from his two tours of duty with WCAU-TV from 1967-1975 and 1980-1989 and the Philadelphia Park channel from 1985-1999.

Gannon, who also worked at PRISM, said he doesn't miss the Friday through Tuesday schedule of the track ("killer for holidays") and that broadcasting is "yesterday's news" for him. However, he still follows sports and is a fan of Comcast SportsNet. The father of five, Gannon also has eight grandchildren.

Weather jock

As the "Ironman Triathlon World Championship" airs from Hawaii tomorrow on NBC, we could be watching WPVI weather anchor Cecily Tynan in the event next year.

Tynan narrowly missed qualifying for the competition, finishing fifth in her age group (women 30-34) in her first "Ironman" competition in Wisconsin last month. Only the top four slots in each age group qualified for "Ironman Hawaii."

A triathlon consists of a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile marathon run. (That's taking the "action" in "Action News" way too seriously.)

The former early morning weather anchor reports that she is enjoying working with WPVI "ironman" Jim Gardner and getting to sleep in past 3 a.m.

Penn earns A+

Last week's Penn-Harvard Ivy League championship game, broadcast from the University of Pennsylvania was ESPN's "College Gameday's" highest rated show of the season with 1.5 million homes tuning in to the game.

Bachelor Pads

Gwen will go from "The Bachelor" to "Bachelor Pads" on Comcast SportsNet at 7 tonight. The homes of Philadelphia sports stars Hollis Thomas, Pat Burrell, and Justin Williams will be on display.

Ukee on move?

This week's installment of "As the Sportscasters Turns" stars KYW 5 p.m. news anchor, Ukee Washington, who according to sources has been approached by station management to return to sports because KYW wants WCAU's Tim Lake to anchor at 5 p.m. Sources say Washington isn't thrilled about the possible switch.

Ratings game

Once again, the Eagles drew a crowd with a 21.7 rating/40 share for the Cardinals game on WTXF Sunday. Each rating point equals 28,305 households.

Missing in action

"Eagles' Post Game Live's" Dave Brown was benched last week because his wife had an emergency appendectomy. It took me almost half the show to realize he wasn't there.

Setting it right

Contrary to what was reported in last week's column, the Philadelphia Eagles-Baltimore Colts Monday night game took place in October 1969, not 1968.
