The rise of the Eagles has meant fewer editions of "The Eagles Post-Game Report" on WTXF this season, much to the chagrin of the station.

According to WTXF operations manager George Cummings, the station cannot air a post-game show when Fox airs a doubleheader, when the Eagles are the Sunday late game on Fox, or when the Eagles are on national television.

Because of the Eagles' winning ways, the latter event happened four times this year, with three games on ABC and one on ESPN. Not doing the post-game show means WTXF misses out on giving some exposure to its sports team of Don Tollefson and Bill Vargus, and the Fox sales department loses out on some big local advertising revenues.

Don't cry for Fox though, as it makes lots of advertising dollars from the games, which have averaged at least a 20 rating and 40 share. Last week's contest against the Giants had giant numbers - a 29.3 rating and 56 share. The big audience carried over to the Fox post-game report which had a 25.7 rating/47 share. Then the local "Eagles Post-Game Report" had an 8.7 rating/18 share. Each ratings point equals 28,305 households.

Last week's "Eagles Post-Game Report" was one of only two that WTXF has done this season. Cummings said that Fox is planning to air post-game shows throughout the duration of the playoffs. However, WTXF can't air its own post-game show until the network finishes its coverage with Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, Jimmy Johnson and James Brown. That means Comcast SportsNet's "Post-Game Live" will get a head start as it begins its show immediately at the conclusion of the game.

Though there won't be a game this week, "Eagles Game Day Live" will air at 11 a.m. live from Chickie's and Pete's restaurant in Philadelphia.

As for the other Eagles shows, there won't be a "Post-Game Live" since there won't be a game, no "Total Access with Gary Papa" since there isn't anything to access, but unfortunately "The Andy Reid Show" and "The Donovan McNabb Show" will continue.

'Unfinished Business'

WCAU is airing the special "Philadelphia Eagles: Unfinished Business" tonight from 7 p.m.-8 p.m. A few players are expected to appear at the live broadcast from the Loew's hotel in Center City.

Playoff crew assignments

The Fox "A-Team" of Joe Buck, Troy Aikman and Cris Collinsworth will work the New York Giants-San Francisco 49ers game on Fox Sunday at 4:30 p.m. The CBS lead team of Greg Gumbel and Phil Simms will broadcast the Cleveland Browns-Pittsburgh Steeler game Sunday at 1 p.m.

Fashion statement

Anyone notice the "SpongeBob Squarepants" scarf Gary Papa was sporting on WPVI while covering the Eagles-Giants game? Papa said it matches the "SpongeBob" T-shirt and key chain he was given by his son. Maybe Papa should switch to a Mickey Mouse scarf next week, since WPVI is an ABC affiliate, which is owned by Disney.

Solid debut for NBA

ABC had a merry NBA debut on Christmas as the Sacramento Kings-Los Angeles Lakers game had a 5.8/11 rating, a 32 percent increase over last year's holiday game between the Sixers and Lakers on NBC. Each national rating point is equal to around a million homes.

Wing Bowl set

WIP 610-AM's 11th annual "Wing Bowl" is scheduled for Jan. 24 at the First Union Center.
