CELEBRATES "THE BRADY BUNCH"
WITH "NICK AT NITE'S BUNCHA BRADY" WEEK!
Network Honors Timeless Series With Special Week-Long Primetime
Specials, Sweepstakes and Nick at Nite Online Tribute.
New York, NY, January 30, 1995--Nick at Nite will honor the world's most recognized TV family when "Nick at Nite's Buncha Brady" airs February 12 - 16, beginning each night at 8:00 PM (ET/PT). The tribute--which consists of five nights of Brady-themed programming, a Brady Bunch-inspired sweepstakes and interactivity that finds the entire Brady clan roaming through cyberspace -- coincides with the national opening of Paramount Pictures' "The Brady Bunch Movie" on Friday, February 17.
The cornerstone of the programming salute --"Brady: An American Chronicle"--is a unique seventeen part, half-hour original Nick at Nite retrospective that examines the cultural and historical importance of "The Brady Bunch." "Nick at Nite's Buncha Brady" also features ten famous episodes of "The Brady Bunch," and animated version of the popular series entitles "The Brady Kids," and several cast reunions and variety shows.
"Brady: An American Chronicle" takes an historical look at the Bradys and how they impact and mirror American culture. While Ken Burns' popular "Baseball" and "Civil War" documentaries come to mind, the show--by way of a host of Brady "experts' --examines such critical issues as Jan's inner struggle for popularity, Greg's overactive ego as he becomes "Johnny Bravo"; and precisely what kind of twisted school would allow poor Cindy to take one guest to her school play!
The hand-picked episodes of "The Brady Bunch" that Nick at Nite will air include: "The Honeymoon," the very first episode; "Dough Re Me," in which the kids sing "When It's Time to Change;" "Her Sister's Shadow," better known as the episode in which Jan exhibits her intense sibling rivalry; "The Subject Was Noses," when Marcia cries "Oh, my nose!" over and over; and six other classic episodes of the series.
Also featured throughout the week are several cast reunion shows including: "The Brady Bunch Variety Hour," a disco-inspired musical show featuring a fake Jan; "The Brady Girls Get Married," a made-for-TV movie in which Marcia and Jan combine their wedding plans to create one big Brady wedding, "A Very Brady Christmas" (the real Jan's back, but now Cindy's an impostor!); and "Brady Mania," hosted by Florence Henderson.
"Nick at Nite's Buncha Brady Sweepstakes" enables viewers to recapture the vacation that the entire Brady family took when Mike surprised them - and Alice -- with a trip to Hawaii! In this sweepstakes, one groovy grand prize winner will receive a trip for nine (that's right...six kids, two parents, one housekeeper, or whoever the winner wants to take!) to this beautiful tropical paradise plus $5000 in cash! One far-out first prize winner will win weekly housekeeping (just like the Bradys--except for the once a week part...oh yeah, and except the live-in part, too) for one whole year. And 100 outta sight second prize winners will each receive their very own copy of Alice's Brady Bunch (TM) cookbook!
Beginning the week of January 30 on the Internet and February 5 on America Online, cyberspace Brady fans can access the on-line promotion of "Nick at Nite's Buncha Brady" week. "The Brady Bunch Movie," a David Kirkpatrick/Sherwood Schwartz production starring Shelley Long, Gary Cole, Jean Smart, and Michael McKean, officially opens at theaters nationwide on Friday, February 17. The setting is the Los Angeles suburbs, 1994--a community beset by economic adversity, a crime rate spiraling out of control and the challenges of the information superhighway. In the midst of it all, the Brady family lives a chaotically idyllic existence where the 70's values reign and the astro-turf is always green. "The Brady Bunch Movie" was produced by Sherwood Schwartz and Lloyd Schwartz and David Kirkpatrick. Alan Ladd, Jr. is the Executive Producer and Betty Thomas is the Director. The screenplay is by Laurice Elehwany and Rick Copp and Bonnie Turner and Terry Turner, based on characters created by Sherwood Schwartz.
