Though CBS-3 has an abundance of in-house anchors, management has hired Alycia Lane of the NBC affiliate in Miami, Florida to anchor with Larry Mendte at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. this fall.  Lane is a native of Long Island, New York and graduated from the State University of New York in Albany with a degree in Spanish literature.  She earned her Masters Degree in Journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
A newsroom insider said with Lane's hiring, it will be likely that current 5 p.m. anchor Ukee Washington will move to mornings to co-anchor with Amy Caples, then do the noon show with Pat Ciarrocchi.  Current 6 p.m. anchor Denise Saunders will likely be paired with current 11 p.m. anchor Marc Howard for the new 4 p.m. show.  I don't understand why CBS-3 didn't hire its best-known anchor, Pat Ciarrocchi, for the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. slot.  She is a beloved Philadelphia icon.

Former WTXF anchor Rich Noonan is returning to television as the host of "Hometown with Rich Noonan" debuting Sunday, August 3 on CN8 at 8 a.m.  Noonan's racial discrimination complaint against his former station is pending.  When asked how he'll fare against WPVI's local show "Sunday Live," Noonan exclaimed, "Bring it On!"

A WCAU spokesperson said that Tiffany McElroy's upcoming departure is due to mutual consent, citing McElroy's desire to become a full-time entertainment reporter.  It was reported last week that McElroy will be taken off as host of the morning show "10."  Also, it was reported last week that McElroy, was 32.  She's 35.  However, as of this week, she is still engaged to former WCAU weatherman John Bolaris.

Speaking of "10," if I ran the show, I'd take away the three-host format, and make it a guy-girl thing like "Regis and Kelly."  Though Bill Henley does a good job on the show, I think he should go back to weather full-time and Steve Levy should be paired with someone a la Kelly Ripa.  However, anyone who works with Levy should beware.  Since 2000, Levy has done the early morning news with Connie Colla, Monique Braxton, Sharon Reed, Tiffany McElroy, and Dawn Timmeney.

"Freeze in the Summer"
WCAU rising star Amy Freeze, who could do a good job on "10," will be hosting "WJJZ Smooth Jazz Summer Nights" on WCAU every Friday night in August at 7:00 p.m.

Wally Kennedy has hosted "AM Philadelphia" and "Philly After Midnight" for WPVI.  If the station gives him another show when "Port Charles," which airs at 12:30 p.m. goes off the air, how about "PM Philadelphia?"

Congratulations to Doylestown's Lorraine Leomporra, who won the grand prize of
CN8's "Disney's Beauty and The Beast" contest which took place on "Your Morning."

In the upcoming "Philadelphia magazine "Best of Philly" issue that hits newsstands this week, KYW 1060-AM was named "Best Taken for Granted Local Institution."  In the category "Flashbacks of Best & Worst Over 30 Years:  Philly Mag's Bad Calls:  1979:  Least Promising Sportscaster" went to Merrill Reese.  Remember, this is the magazine that had Kobe Bryant on the "Best of Philly" cover last year.
