Here are some assorted observations and predictions for the new fall television season:

 

Big Battle – Thursday at 9 p.m. – “Grey’s Anatomy” on ABC vs. “CSI” on CBS

 

Right Show, Wrong Night – “Friday Night Lights” airs on Tuesday night on NBC.

 

Make or Break Year – “Desperate Housewives,” “The O.C.,” “Survivor,” “Crossing Jordan,” “The Bachelor”

 

A-Bergeron-C – Tom Bergeron is on four hours of television a week between “Dancing With the Stars” and “America’s Funniest Home Videos” on ABC.

 

Saturday Nights Live - Not only is NBC airing “30 Rock” and “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip,” but the original show, coming off its worst season in years, returns without head writer Tina Fey, who defected to “30 Rock.”

 

Night to Watch ABC – Sunday night with “Extreme Makeover:  Home Edition,” “Desperate Housewives,” and “Brothers and Sisters” or Wednesday with “Dancing with the Stars,” “Lost,” and “The Nine.”

 

Night to Watch the CW – Tuesday night with “Gilmore Girls” and “Veronica Mars.”

 

Night to Watch NBC – Sunday night with “Sunday Night Football” or Thursday night with “My Name is Earl,” “The Office,” “Deal or No Deal, and “ER.”

 

Night to Watch CBS – Thursday night with “Survivor,” “CSI,” and “Shark.”

 

Night to Watch Fox – Sunday night with “The Simpsons,” “American Dad,” “Family Guy,” and “The War at Home.”

 

Worst Title – “Ugly Betty”

 

Best Title – “Men in Trees”

 

Welcome Back to TV – Joely Fisher, Brad Garrett, Ted Danson, Calista Flockhart, Donal Logue, Kyle Chandler, John Lithgow, Gerald McRaney, Wendie Malick

 

Deal With It – “Deal or No Deal” will air twice a week.

 

Ten Years and Over Club – “60 Minutes,” The Simpsons,” “ER,” “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” “20/20,” “Law and Order,” “Cops,” “America’s Most Wanted,” Dateline NBC,” “7th Heaven”

 

Hopes It Lives Up To Its Name – “20 Good Years”

 

Hopes It Doesn’t Live Up To Its Name – “Vanished.”
