Philly-based author Jennifer Weiner will appear on the next installment of Michael Smerconish’s book club on his WPHT 1210-AM show Friday morning.

Smerconish will broadcast his show live from The Ocean City Music Pier in New Jersey from 6-9 a.m.  Weiner will be on the air for the last segment of the broadcast and immediately following, Smerconish will host an hour-long discussion and Q&A with Jennifer on her latest work, "Little Earthquakes."

The film version of Weiner’s novel, “In Her Shoes,” starring Cameron Diaz, Toni Collette, and Shirley MacLaine opens in theaters October 7.  Weiner’s next novel, “Goodnight Nobody,” hits stores in the fall.  Weiner’s first book, “Good in Bed” is scheduled to be adapted to HBO.

Two new reporters are joining CN8.  Justin Gray, of Newschannel 3 in Charleston, West Virginia, begins Monday.  Rachel Pfanner, of the CBS affiliate in Toledo, Ohio begins August 22.

Former Philadelphia radio and television personality John Ziegler will be back on the air here when he fills in for George Noory’s syndicated Sunday night show on WPHT 1210-AM.  Ziegler’s book, “The Death of Free Speech...How Our Broken National Dialogue Has Killed The Truth and Divided America" is available at bookstores and personalized signed copies can be obtained at www.johnziegler.com. The Washington Crossing native is a talk show host in Los Angeles, CA.

“The Late Show with David Letterman” will be holding auditions for “Stupid Human Tricks” at Caesars in Atlantic City, NJ Friday from 3-6 p.m.  “Couzin Ed” and Tanya from WYSP 94.1-FM host the proceedings.

My new favorite show is “Kathy Griffin:  My Life on the D List.”  The premiere episode featured Kathy bombing at a Hollywood benefit and her husband cheating to become qualified for gastric bypass surgery.  The next episode airs tomorrow at 10 p.m.

Another new show that deserves good ratings is the hilarious “The Comeback” on HBO at 10:30 p.m.  Lisa Kudrow is pitch perfect as the insecure sitcom actress.

Also debuting this week is “Weeds” starring Mary Louise Parker and Elizabeth Perkins on Showtime.  It will air Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10 p.m.

Former Channel 10 anchor and reporter Joe Vazquez was promoted to an anchor from reporter for KPIX and KBHK-TV in San Francisco.
