Here are some observations about the telecast of the 78th “Academy Awards.”
Host Report Card – Rookie host Jon Stewart earned a “B.” He wasn’t hilarious, but had some solid jokes. The funniest bit of the night was a “Daily Show-esque” parody of political ads for actress nominees.
Best Dressed – Jessica Alba, Amy Adams, George Clooney, Keanu Reeves, Reese Witherspoon, Salma Hayek, Eric Bana, Chicken Little
Worst Dressed – Tim Burton, Paul Giamatti, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Felicity Huffman, Michelle Williams, Charlize Theron (that crazy bow), Frances McDormand
Best Makeup – Keira Knightley, Steve Carell, Will Ferrell
Worst Makeup – Michelle Williams
Call Jenny Craig – Phillip Seymour Hoffman looked like he gained fifty pounds since he played “Capote.”
Awkward Moment – Old-timer Lauren Bacall’s shaky “film noir” presentation.
Awkward Moment II – Watching Jennifer Aniston on stage alone and thinking about Brad and “you know who.”
Speech Killers – Producers made sure that music played underneath during entire acceptance speeches.
Show Killer – Viewers waited an hour between the first and second acting awards of the night.
